Dear People, with Love and Care, Your Doctors by Debraj Shome

This book is a collection of 34 heartbreaking stories written by different persons about the relationship between Doctor-Patient. Most of the chapters were from the Doctor’s POV and few chapters were from the patient’s POV. This book says the fact that at the end of the day Doctors are also just humans who try do their best to save their patients.

This book had completely changed my perspective about doctors. From this book I came to know the way the doctors analyze and think about the treatment for a particular diseases and they keep them up to date to do that. There is this story where the doctor grieved even after 15 years from one of her patient’s demise, who had come with 98% of burns. Their patient’s dead do affect them a lot.

The thing I learned from this story is that experience is more important than knowledge. In one of the stories a doctor was handling a critical patient, he knew what to do, but as he was a fresher he didn’t know how to treat the patient, thus his lack of experience took away the patient’s life. Whereas an experienced doctor in a village with no specialized equipments or laboratories performed the left kidney removal operation for a critical patient. There are stories with tumors, Burns, eye defection and more. I came to know about India’s first hand transplant through this book. Overall this book will make you know more about doctors and their efforts to treat their patients.

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5/5
