13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher

Blurb:

You can’t stop the future.
You can’t rewind the past.
The only way to learn the secret . . . is to press play.

Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a strange package with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers several cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker–his classmate and crush–who committed suicide two weeks earlier. Hannah’s voice tells him that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he’ll find out why.

Clay spends the night crisscrossing his town with Hannah as his guide. He becomes a firsthand witness to Hannah’s pain, and as he follows Hannah’s recorded words throughout his town, what he discovers changes his life forever.

My review:

Clay, the protagonist of “13 reasons why” receives Cassettes which was recorded by Hannah Baker before she committed suicide, there she reveals 13 reasons why she did so.

The reasons for her to take such a bad decision of killing herself were very small things. One would not kill herself/himself just because their friends left them or for a silly rumour spreading about them or for the guilt they carry because they could have stopped something bad that was about to happen.

But if all the little unpleasant things happen together, again and again, pressing a person with more pressure from all the sides then how could they lead a life. This is what happens in Hannah’s life. At the start, I was not into the book because I felt like these reasons won’t justify her death but when I move on with the story I came to understand how our little actions compiled together would affect other person’s life. I felt so sorry for Hannah and I wish no one would go through such things she had faced.

This book is not just a bundle of reasons why Hannah died, but it’s also a lesson to convey the readers that our every action have a consequence and we must be aware of what we are saying or doing to others, that fondness is always necessary like oxygen to stay alive. I loved the whole concept of this book and I highly recommend this book to everyone.
