The night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

Blurb:

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.

True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.

Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.

My review:

I really want to say that I loved this book, but I can’t because I’m still confused with the climax and the whole “game” in the book. The game is the main plot in this story in which the two magicians fight against each other but not directly like I said it is confusing. The first 100 pages didn’t make any sense and the alternating timeline make it even more complicated. After that the story started to get the enchantment.

I really loved those part about the Circus more than the plot of the story. The descriptions were more specific and mesmerizing and I felt like I was there in one of the tent looking at my reflection in the mirror, but without the scarf that I were wearing. Each and every tent were so much fascinating than the other and I love all the ideas of the tent. I so badly wish to have the Circus in the real world because it is so much appealing. The character development was at the best.

Coming to the plot, it wasn’t as obvious as the Circus. The Circus is not the plot, the Circus was something that helped the plot to grow, in which case the plot has to be more precise but it was not. And this is where you get the confusion whether you like the story or not. I’m not okay with the climax as it was too surreal ( I know this is a fantasy book but still🤷‍♀️). Again I really really enjoyed reading about the Circus which is unsurpassed unlike the “game” part. I do recommend this book to all only because I don’t want you to miss visiting the “Le Cirque des Rêves” (The Circus of Dreams)
