Blurb:
Fall in love, break the curse.
Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year, Prince Rhen, the heir of Emberfall, thought he could be saved easily if a girl fell for him. But that was before he turned into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. Before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.
Nothing has ever been easy for Harper. With her father long gone, her mother dying, and her brother constantly underestimating her because of her cerebral palsy, Harper learned to be tough enough to survive. When she tries to save a stranger on the streets of Washington, DC, she’s pulled into a magical world.
Break the curse, save the kingdom.
Harper doesn’t know where she is or what to believe. A prince? A curse? A monster? As she spends time with Rhen in this enchanted land, she begins to understand what’s at stake. And as Rhen realizes Harper is not just another girl to charm, his hope comes flooding back. But powerful forces are standing against Emberfall . . . and it will take more than a broken curse to save Harper, Rhen, and his people from utter ruin.

My review:
I have always loved the fairy tale “Beauty and the Beast” which made me buy this book in the first place. This is my first re-telling read, so I have no expectations while starting it. But now I’m so sure that I would never be disappointed if I had any expectations.
This book “A Curse So Dark And Lonely” by Brigid Kemmerer is my best read of 2020 so far. This book made me hooked from the start to till the end. Harper, the female protagonist, is one of the strongest people I have read in books, next to Inej from SOC who is also my most favourite. The author’s transformation of Harper’s behaviour from loathing Rhen to adoring Rhen was carried so gently and I can’t help but fall in love with Brigid’s writing style.
Prince Rhen, Silver hell! I couldn’t find any words to describe his charm, handsomeness and his calculative mind which works super fast especially in critical situations. I loved everything about him the way he talks, the way he felt for Harper, the way he gets jealous over Grey and above all the way he was ready to sacrifice himself to protect his people of Emberfall. I felt like he was more of a real-world prince than a fictional one.
The other main character is Grey, the loyal commander who would do anything ANYTHING he was asked to do by his prince. He is the definition of loyalty and I loved him too. This is the thing about this book that you can’t deny loving any characters except for Lilith, a woman who cursed Rhen and the way she tortured him is inexplicable. This book is set in two world less in DC and more in Emberfall and even though this is a fantasy book there is no much magics involved but that’s not a thing to worry about as I was busy sinking in Brigid’s writing style.
My heart was so happy while reading this book and I wish I would have read this book earlier. I still can’t get over the book, I want more of Rhen-Harper, more of Emberfall and more of Brigid’s writing. Silver Hell!! I love this book so very much. Can’t wait to read the 2nd part in the series. This is the kind of book that everyone should read even if you are not a fantasy lover.
