Serpent and Dove by Shelby Mahurin

Blurb:

Bound as one to love, honor, or burn.

Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned.

Sworn to the Church as a Chasseur, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. His path was never meant to cross with Lou’s, but a wicked stunt forces them into an impossible union—holy matrimony.

The war between witches and Church is an ancient one, and Lou’s most dangerous enemies bring a fate worse than fire. Unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, a choice must be made.

And love makes fools of us all.

My Review:

From my childhood, I always love and admire Magic in cartoons and movies. I think it was 2 years back when I saw the TV series “The Vampire diaries” and that was when I started loving witch magics. But I haven’t read any books on Witches which means “Serpent & Dove” is my first read about Witches. I loved how the elements of magics were explained with so many details. I loved it how they can smell the magic in the air. I wondered about it throughout the book.

Louise, the female protagonist was a witch and Reid, the male protagonist was a witch hunter. At first, I loved them both as a pair because they reminded me so much of Nina and Matthias from “Six Of Crows”. It felt like as if Nina and Matthias were reborn in this book. Then I started to love them as Lou and Reid. I loved Lou’s sassy character whereas Reid is the exact opposite to her. I loved how he took responsibility to protect her as a husband even before he loved her.

The plot is a usual one but the way it got delivered was different. The thrill lasted until the very end of the book. I didn’t see the twist that comes after the 3/4 of the book. It was the opposite of what I had guessed. The cliffhanger at the end wants me to read the second book so badly which will be released by September. I am not a person who tracks new releases, but I did that for this book and I just couldn’t wait to read more of Lou and Reid.
