Blurb:
Maia Tamarin dreams of becoming the greatest tailor in the land, but as a girl, the best she can hope for is to marry well. When a royal messenger summons her ailing father, once a tailor of renown, to court, Maia poses as a boy and takes his place. She knows her life is forfeit if her secret is discovered, but she’ll take that risk to achieve her dream and save her family from ruin. There’s just one catch: Maia is one of twelve tailors vying for the job.
Backstabbing and lies run rampant as the tailors compete in challenges to prove their artistry and skill. Maia’s task is further complicated when she draws the attention of the court magician, Edan, whose piercing eyes seem to see straight through her disguise.
And nothing could have prepared her for the final challenge: to sew three magic gowns for the emperor’s reluctant bride-to-be, from the laughter of the sun, the tears of the moon, and the blood of stars. With this impossible task before her, she embarks on a journey to the far reaches of the kingdom, seeking the sun, the moon, and the stars, and finding more than she ever could have imagined.

My review:
I had never thought I would love this book so much. It made me feel so emotional right from the first chapter. This debut book “Spin The Dawn” by Elizabeth Lim is a wonderful tale about a girl who is devastated by the horrors of war and who works hard to get recognition for her talent in the patriarchy world.
Maia was one of the wonderful characters I have come across. She was not strong by heart but always was determined to do anything for her family eventhough she was very young. Her relationship with her brothers was overwhelmingly heart touching. Her relationship with Edan was so smooth and gradual which is why I adore them. They are so cute together.
Edan!! Oh, Edan, what can I say about him? He is a handsome “young” enchanter whose eyes change its colour according to his moods. Yes!! That’s one of my favourite thing about Edan. It was just pretty amazing to visualize the changing of eye colour. That’s a very little part of his magic. I just don’t want to reveal everything. It was really fascinating to know about his powers.
The plot and the magic system was so unique and beautiful. The protagonist being a tailor there were details of embroidery, stitching, colours and patterns. I love such works and that made me love this book even more. The author’s writing style made me love this book from the very beginning. This is such a beautiful and magical book filled with emotions.
