Synopsis:
I have a curse
I have a giftI am a monster
I’m more than humanMy touch is lethal
My touch is powerI am their weapon
I will fight back
Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.
The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war—and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

My Review:
After hearing so many people going crazy about Shatter Me characters, especially Warner, I wanted to read this series. Also, recently, I was highly convinced by my friend Rahi that “Starting this series is like driving with no breaks, you just can’t stop even if you want to.” Finally, I picked it, and I couldn’t disagree with her.
This book is totally a character-driven story. I love character-driven stories, so no wonder I fall for the book. Juliette’s character is so good. She was vulnerable, never afraid to say want she wanted, and constantly stayed on her good side despite how the world described her as a monster.
I wished to see more of Adam in the upcoming books. Felt like he was shown less in the scenes. He gave Mal vibes (from Shadow and Bone) ( I know most people don’t like Mal, but I love him. He is one of my favorite characters). Adam’s love for Juliette was so pure. He was such a sweetheart.
Kenji, Adam’s colleague, only appeared after half of the book yet turned out to be a likable character. He was charming and humorous. He always adds sarcasm in every sentence he speaks. He was such an enjoyable character to read.
Everyone who read the series screams about how they loved Warner but not me. He was so arrogant and cruel and never hesitated to kill. These were all my opinions about him until I read Destroy me.
Destroy Me is a Novella and is to be read after Shatter Me. It has Warner’s pov from the near end of the Shatter Me book. It gave me a different perspective on Warner’s personality. How he was grown under the powerful bad influence of his father was well expressed in the novella. The reason behind why he did such bad things in Shatter Me was revealed, and it gave a good impression of him. He fed a stray dog when no one else saw him, which is enough for me to love him. I am so eager to read more about him in the upcoming books.
Shatter Me is a dystopian novel. The author didn’t do justice to the genre. Romantic elements in the book dominated the dystopian side of the story. The dystopian world setting wasn’t well developed. I am disappointed with that. Despite all this, I loved the book because of the characters.
The story has a nice flow in it that kept me turning pages. I was hooked till the end. The chapters are short, which I always prefer. I have read it in a day. I am stopping myself so hard from picking up the second book to write this review.
If you are looking for a plot-driven story, this book is not for you. Nothing happens in the book except Juliette’s moving and escaping from one place to another. As I said before, if you love reading a character-driven story with a mixture of love, romance, and humor (only from Kenji), then pick this.
Prediction: I suspect, based on the events of book 1, that Adam and Warner are somehow related in blood.
