My Review:

I have watched many action movies, and it’s been my favourite type of movie for so long. Likewise, I have loved fantasy novels’ action and adventurous elements but have never read an entire action-pack story before. So that makes “City of Whispers” by Katt Powers my first-ever action-filled read.

Dhani, the protagonist, was a trained assassin who was framed for a murder she didn’t commit, and so now she works as a secret service operative to clear her name.

When we’re good at something we’ve been doing for a while, we get even better at it. But if we try something new, we might make mistakes and have a hard time. Dhani had complete freedom to accomplish her goals as an assassin, but her new job had restrictions, a partner to collaborate with, and a superior to report to. So I get it when she messes up things. That made her more realistic.

Dhani’s sassy replies added sugar to the story. I wished there were more of them. Despite ending up with a broken ankle, her fight scenes were impressive and showcased her exceptional self-defence skills.

The plot was engaging and kept me hooked until the end. Action elements were so vivid and detailed. That’s one of the many things I loved in this book. The cover featuring a fierce female assassin is visually stunning and effectively sets the tone for an action-packed story. I loved it so much.

It took me two chapters to get into the story, as the words used for names of places, organizations, and people were complicated. That was the only con I felt throughout the book. The world-building was not complex. It was pretty good and detailed, which I loved.

If you’re someone who enjoys reading books that are filled with action, adventure, and a sprinkle of magical elements, then this book would be an excellent choice for your next read. It promises to keep you engaged and entertained with its thrilling plot that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.7 / 5
