Synopsis:

When a girl overhears a guy getting verbally destroyed by his friends for being catfished, she jumps in to save the day—and pretends to be his online crush. A young adult romance from the critically acclaimed author of Places We’ve Never Been.

Wren is used to being called a control freak. She doesn’t care; sticking to the list of rules she created for herself helps her navigate life. But when a cute guy named Asher walks through the door of her neighborhood coffee shop, the rulebook goes out the window.

Asher is cute, charming . . . and being catfished by his online crush. So Wren makes an uncharacteristically impulsive decision—she pretends to be the girl he’s waiting for to save him from embarrassment. Suddenly she’s fake-dating a boy she knows nothing about. And it’s . . . amazing.

It’s not long before Asher has her breaking even more of her own rules. But will he forgive her when he finds out she’s not who she says she is? Wren’s not so sure. . . . After all, rules exist for a reason.

My Review:

Borrow My Heart by Kasie West is such a feel-good book I have read in a while. Because of the pet theme in this book, I loved it even more.

Wren’s love for pets made me feel connected to her. She worked in a Shelter where she got attached to Bean, a sweet Pitbull. Finding a forever home for Bean has been the subplot, which I love more than the main plot.

Wren saved Asher, the male protagonist, from his friend embarrassing himself because he said he would humiliate Asher if the girl he (Asher) met online didn’t show up to the Coffee Shop. So, Wren jumped in to save the day. First of all, I wouldn’t say I like this scene because it’s so unrealistic. You don’t save a stranger because his friend was teasing him. It’s their business, not yours, Wren.

This was literally the very first scene, so I thought I might not love this book very much. But I was wrong. Interactions between Wren and Asher were so sweet. Wren’s sarcastic responses throughout the book were my favourite.

The characters were so good in this book. Kamala, Wren’s friend, was an excellent support for Wren, unlike Wren’s mother, who left her when she was little. I adore how Wren handled her relationship with her mother.

This book has a super flow and is fast-paced from the beginning, and I didn’t expect a twist. I was only eagerly waiting for what would happen if Asher knew that Wren was lying all along. But nothing happened as I expected. There was a total change in the plot, which was a perfect twist. Also, the book cover is so beautiful and I am in love with it.

This book is a cute, feel-good young adult story with a great subplot involving animals.
