Synopsis:
#1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Natasha Preston is back with another pulse-pounding, twisty read!
Haunted by the past . . .
Penny’s trying to forget about her ex, Nash. His father was arrested for the brutal murder of four teenagers on Devil’s Night last year. Penny’s parents have forbidden her to have anything to do with Nash or his family. It’s hard not to think of what happened as spooky season gets underway–but she’s trying.
That stops when she goes to the Halloween store with her friends to find a costume. What she finds instead is ripped from a horror movie: a girl from school bleeding out on the floor of a dressing room. Stabbed.
Is a copycat killer on the loose? The adults are saying no. But Penny knows better.

My Review:
“The Cellar” was one of the few books that got me into reading years ago by the same author, Natasha Preston. Thinking about that book still gives me chills. So, that’s why I was so excited to read “The Haunting,” and it didn’t disappoint me at all.
It’s nearing Halloween in Penny’s town; the horror of last year’s murders was in the minds of the town folks. This year, the murders start again. The anxiety Penny felt whenever there was a murder in the town was expressed so well and felt so real. The spooky vibes in the story lasted till the very end.
I loved the dynamics between Nash and Penny. They weren’t together most of the time, but their connection was so heartfelt. The twist at the end was so unexpected. I guessed wrong, not once but many times, about who might be the killer.
The ending is a killer. I’ve never encountered a book with an open ending before. Now, I realize it’s something I’ll have to endure indefinitely, and it can be quite frustrating. It’s just ended so suddenly. Actually, it didn’t feel like it ended at all; it feels like the story is on pause, but it will never continue. I still can’t process the fact that I don’t get a proper ending.
Apart from that part, it’s just an amazing page-turning thriller with worthy twists and likable characters.
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
