Synopsis:

A fledgling vampire and a headstrong vampire huntress must work together–against their better judgment—to rid the world of monsters in this irresistible romantic fantasy.

Carolina Fuentes has always wanted to join her family in hunting down the bloodthirsty monsters that plague her pueblo. But these days, her father wants her out of town with a husband of his choosing. That’s not happening. Carolina plans to show everyone that she’d make a better vampire slayer than wife. But when she runs into a sediento that is not only handsome but kind, she questions everything.

Lalo Villalobos doesn’t act on impulses. As the eldest of two, his duties were to carry on the family business, marry, and have children. But then he is turned into a sediento and must flee the city, taking lives as he goes north, where he believes the first vampire was made. Surely, the pueblo there will have the answers to reverse this curse or end sedientos altogether. Another unexpected turn? Lalo runs right into a beautiful young woman who’d gladly stake him. Fortunately, mostly for him, they share a common enemy. They can stop these evil beasts. Together. And if along the way, Lalo and Fernanda discover what it is to truly live and love, then they’ll have won anyway

Review:

I absolutely love vampire tales, even though I’ve read very few books in this genre. This one stood out with its incredibly unique plot. Lalo, the protagonist, is turned into a vampire but is desperately struggling against fully transforming into one.

Unlike many movies and series where vampires are romanticized or have redeeming qualities, in this book, vampires are portrayed as monsters, staying true to their terrifying nature.

Rose, the female protagonist, is a vampire hunter, driven by her mission to eliminate the vampire race. Lalo and Rose are forced to work together, despite their differences, to destroy the vampire race.

The characters were well-written. I loved the emotional layers throughout the story. The backstory was rich and engaging, with a twist that took me completely by surprise and added even more depth to the plot.

This book is a good read in the fantasy and paranormal genre. It’s packed with action, emotion, and a touch of romance, making it a great read. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys vampire tales with a fresh perspective.

My rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5

Favourite Quotes:

I often mistake love and loss. They are twin sisters. Holding hands and scampering past. Teasing me with their wicked beauty. Both make me feel like my world is large and small. They remind me I should be grateful but also terrified.

He never told her everything was going to be all right. Or lied and said she was faultless. Lalo simply said he was sorry and let her cry into his shirt. That had been enough.

Hope is a strange thing, don’t you think? It can pull you out of your darkest thoughts, but also leave you destroyed if that hope turns into nothing greater. That’s when we must lean on the people who care for us the most. They hold us steady and do the hoping for us when we no longer can.
