My review:

This book is about five teenagers trying to save mankind from an evil person with their newfound powers. The title fits so perfectly with the story, which I admire the most in the book.

When five friends, Jordan, Chase, Kinsu, Alex, and Rhee, wander into the woods, they blacked out and woke up with heightened senses. With power comes the price; their life which was once carefree and fun turned into tragedy and violence.

The plot was intriguing and unique. The prologue was so exciting and ended on a cliffhanger, which hooked me on the story from the beginning. The author did an excellent job of portraying the difficulty Alex faced in adjusting to their newfound powers while also juggling the demands of school and daily life. To me, Alex is the only person who seems sane among his friends.

The other four boys, except Alex, didn’t seem to care about their life. They got used to the power so quickly, which was so unreal. It would have been better if how they adopted their power were explained briefly. Also, there was no explanation for why these five boys got the power and what is so special about them.

The characters lack uniqueness, and I don’t feel connected to any of them. Likewise, I don’t feel the friendship bond between the five friends, which is the major drawback because the whole story revolves around them.

Even though there are so many things that could have been better, the plot kept me going. The twist at the end was unexpected and good. In short, this story has so much potential but could have been executed better. I found the book to be average.

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐.5
