My Review:

“Flowers and Ash” by Brenda Baker is about a girl, Lisette, who wants to find the reason behind the sudden vanishing of people in her land, Wrunwicks. Lisette from Stonebridge, a town in Wrunwicks, along with her friends, set on a quest to solve the mystery that no one dares.

Lisette lives in a world where women are only meant for household work. Even in our real world, some people think that’s what women are capable of. When Lisette said she wished to go on a journey to reveal the truth, she didn’t get the full support initially. She was so determined to follow her heart’s will, and I loved her for that.

Her friends were eager to join her on her journey, and together, they travelled to many places. I really liked reading about their adventures in the book because I love the travel trope, which is one of my favourite tropes. The team were all humans and possessed no powers except Lisette, whose power was revealed only at the very end of the book. So, for most of the book, she was human and made many realistic decisions, which made the story feel connected. I appreciate the book’s abundance of logical and practical elements; it’s something I genuinely adore about it.

The whole concept of the book was so fascinating. It felt so real, like there are possibilities that even our world might be flooded with monsters if there are monster realms and if the doorway between ours and theirs had a rift. That’s the plot of the story. One thing I am not satisfied with is the cover of the book. I feel like it could have been better.

I love Florette’s presents in the book. She was a little fairy with wings and accompanied Lisette throughout the book. Other than Florette, so little importance was given to other side characters, which, from my perspective, is a con. But that didn’t affect the whole awesomeness of the story.

“Flowers and Ash” by Brenda Baker is an exciting story of determination and adventure in a world that mixes real-life situations with fantasy. If you enjoy stories with a blend of logical storytelling and imaginative realms, then give this book a try.

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.8 / 5
